National Confab passed 500 recommendations in four months.
A delegate at the conference and Vice President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Isa Aremu, disclosed this in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital while speaking with journalists.
Aremu maintained that all the recommendations made by the conference touched critical sub-themes that concerned all Nigerians, “through consensus, except the debate on revenue sharing formula, which generated arguments and yet to be concluded.
“Contentious issues on religion were amicably resolved, showing that the two faiths, Islam and Christianity, were never in conflict but rather the handwork of some few Nigerians who want to use religion as tool for manipulations,” he added.
Aremu further hinted that “Committee on the nation’s foreign policy, headed by Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, recommended the need to revive the nation’s foreign policy, particularly the peace keeping operations.”
The NLC boss implored President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure that all policy issues raised by the delegates that are not constitutional matters, be handed directly to the executive, while others should be forwarded to the National Assembly.
He also appealed to the Federal Government to revive the old vocational centres, through the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), with a view to reducing unemployment rate.
Aremu added that the delegates resolved that labour issues should remain on the exclusive legislative list, urging government to allocate more funds to resuscitate moribund industries through intervention funds.
