KWARA REGISTERS 78, 000 UNEMPLOYED YOUTHS
At least 78, 000 youths consisting of graduates as well as primary and secondary school certificate holders are currently registered as unemployed in Kwara State.
Special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Zakariyyah Babatunde, in a chat with Daily Trust on the sidelines of the International Youth Day celebration organised by the state chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), said the state government in the past two years provided 4000 employments through the Bridge Employment Scheme (KWABES) while another 1000 jobs are to be provided in the next few weeks.
Babatunde added that given the scarcity of white collar jobs, the state government was looking at areas of skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, skills development and educational curriculum reform.
The NYCN chairman, Comrade Adekanye Kazeem, who also spoke to our correspondent, advised Nigerian youths against migrating to other countries in search of greener pasture.
He said, "We are trying to tell them that greener pasture is a function of the mind. It is when you condition your mind that you make the greener pasture and there is no greener pasture anywhere other than Nigeria".
