The Kwara State government has described as unfounded and mischievous the allegation that it is victimizing Offa Local Government being the only council controlled by the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

It would be recalled that the government, following the /Erin-Ile communal clash, suspended the executive and legislative arms of the two affected councils of Offa and Oyun local governments.

However, the government last Friday reinstated the Oyun council under the chairmanship of Alhaji Ibrahim Omoniyi and said the Offa council remains suspended following a court order which nullified the election of Prince Saheed Popoola.

The ACN condemned the recall of the executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-controlled Oyun Local Government, describing the action as partial. 

A member of the ACN caretaker committee in the state, Prince Shuaib Olanrewaju, said the ACN's apprehension that the government action in February was a smokescreen by the PDP- controlled state government to take control of Offa council has been justified.

But in a chat with Daily Trust, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muideen Akorede, described the alleged victimization as "unfounded and mischievous".
