Dethronement: Community pays sympathy visit to Olofa's palace
The people of Offa in Kwara State on Friday paid solidarity visit to the Palace of Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, following Tuesday’s Court Appeal judgment which nullified his appointment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the community in large numbers thronged the palace, opposite the mosque, to express their support for the monarch.
The appellate court sitting in Ilorin nullified the July 2012 decision of the state High Court presided over by Justice S.M. Akanbi, which had upheld the Oba’s enthronement.
The court also ordered the monarch to vacate the throne with immediate effect.
Justice Obande Ogbuinya faulted the judgment of the lower court and granted the relief sought by the appellant, Alhaji Abdulrauf Keji, having found them meritorious.
The Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muibudeen Salman, had earlier in a sermon urged members of the community to be calm and seek God’s favour in any situation they might be.
According to him, every human act of commission and omission will be judge according to their intention.
"I want every one of you to exhibit kindness and good deeds, while living and show affection in your dealing with neighbours, especially people of other doctrines.
"We shall be accountable before Allah on how we have impacted either positively or negatively on our surroundings. God is the ultimate judge," Salman said.
A special prayer was also offered by the cleric for peace and tranquility to reign in Offa, Kwara, and the country, at large.
