Nigeria has no business with poverty - KWASU VC

Date: 2013-07-09

Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, at the weekend said Nigeria with its vast resources and potentials, has no business with poverty.

He however decried the inability of the country to harness its numerous resources as well as its multilingual nature to turn around the fortune of the country and compete favourably with advanced nations of the world.

Speaking when he was conferred with the title of Grand Patron of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Na'Allah said, "I have toured all the continents and I am proud to tell you that Nigeria is gifted. We have over 400 languages and there are more undiscovered languages in Nigeria. This is enough to serve as an avenue for the country to be making huge money.

He added, "God loves Nigeria. He blessed this country with human and natural resources. It is sad that a nation with huge resources can't even develop solar power. The politicians, researchers and universities have failed this country woefully".

Also speaking at the 3rd Open House Session of the university where members of the community in Malete and environs were invited, the vice chancellor challenged universities to proffer solutions to the numerous challenges facing the nation, saying it is regrettable that the nation's 128 universities could not carry out researches to tackle the country's development problems.
