Letter: Re - Senate Summons FCC Chief For Screening
Our attention has been drawn to the report credited to Sani Onogu titled " Senate Summons FCC Chief for Screening" in "The Nation" Newspaper of Thursday, June 13,2013
We,the "Kwara Patriot" (a group of Professionals, business men and women, media practitioners and lecturers)who are tutees and beneficiaries of Prof Oba's benevolence as far back as early 80s have decided to put the record in its proper perspective.
We want the sponsors of the story to note the fact that Prof Oba has maintained a deliberate silence since the announcement of his reappointment so as not to heat the polity in Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large ; especially given the covert but concerted efforts of some individuals to thwart the reappointment.
It is an apparent mischief on the side of the purveyors of the story to say that Prof Oba "was shocked" upon being called for screening. Every lettered Nigerian knows that legislative screening is a fundamental procedure that political appointees undergo , especially those appointed into Constitutional Commissions like the one Oba heads. There's no reason whatsoever for the imagined shock as woven into the story. For the avoidance of doubt, it should be understood that Prof Oba that we know bears no malice against anyone but at the same time , it must be underscored for record purposes that he has not gone abegging any individual or group of individuals. In addition ,the peddlers should be educated that Oba did not organise the palace prayer , on the contrary ;His Royal Highness , the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari CFR, felt honoured and elated that another illustrious son of his and a traditional title holder in his palace has been duly recognised by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and he personally took it upon himself to organise a thanks giving prayer as he has done for such other appointees.
It is our view therefore, that; rather than these unnecessary official subterfuge and retrogressive politics, it is better to support the good work of one of your own , if indeed we mean well for our community, our State and Nigeria at large.
Isiaka Zubair.
