Date: 2013-06-05

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Monday, paraded one Mr. Wasiu Adewale Azees, who has allegedly been impersonating the Chief  Superintendent Officer of the Corps in Offa, Kwara State and has successfully defrauded 54 job seekers to the tune of N8.5 million.

The suspect, who claimed to be a former volunteer in the corps, did not deny the allegation but confessed to newsmen that he has been working with some NSCDC senior officers at the national headquarters and Lagos command to defraud job seekers.

Parading the suspect in Abuja, the Corps Public Relations Officer, Mr. Okeh Emmanuel, said the suspect was caught following a report and various complaints received by the management of NSCDC over the personnel of the corps that have been collecting money from people in the name of recruitment.

According to him,  "unfortunately, one Mr. Wasiu Adewale Azees from Offa, KwaraState whom in his own capacity decided to brand himself a Chief Superintendent, a senior officer of the Corps, has decided to open his own parallel organisation thereby recruiting job seekers illegally and giving them fake appointment letters upon payment of the amount demanded."

He said the suspect was not only parading himself as a senior officers of the corps in Kwara State, but "going about to impersonate in the name of Civil Defence, attending different functions in the uniform of Civil Defence, taking photograph with senior officers of different services such as Nigerian Army, Immigration, Police and Navy. So, it was these photographs he showed to his victims as a senior officer of NSCDC."

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include letter headed papers of Fire Service, Civil Defence, Immigration and Prison Service Board, fake appointment letters, a signed promotion letter by the former Acting Comptroller General of NSCDC, Dr. Oladunjoye which read 2002 and a letter addressed to the Corporate affairs commission for registration.

While urging Nigerians especially the job seekers to be careful about people they deal with, Emmanuel therefore disclosed that Wasiu Adewale Azees, has never being a personnel of the Corps even as a volunteer in the past.

During an interview with Journalists, the suspect alleged NSCDC of unfair treatment, alleging that he gave N5 million to one Mr. Musa of the Corps national headhunters who he said helped him to secure appointments for about four of his victims and Mr. Henry Francis, former HOD of anti vandals, a Deputy Superintendent in Lagos command were his accomplices.

"I am a volunteer and all these things they are saying about me are not true, there are some officers in this organization that we are doing it together there was a boy in training Department at the headquarters here I gave N5 million for employment, his name is Musa". He confessed
