'Kwara Employs 5,000 Youths' - Ahmed

Date: 2013-05-30

Worried by the high rate of unemployed youths in the state, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, Wednesday said about 5,000 unemployed youths have been offered employment opportunities in the state in the last two years of his administration.

He said out of the 5,000 employed youths, 1,000 unemployed youths have been absorbed into the state's civil service under the state Bridge Empowerment Scheme (KWABES).
Ahmed, who disclosed this at Ilorin Metropolitan Square, during activities marking his two years in office, said his administration remained committed towards creating shared prosperity for the people of the state through rapid economic growth.

According to him,"of this number, 500 youths have been engaged as graduate teachers to address the shortfall in teachers at rural schools under the Teaching Service Commission, while the remainder had been offered employment under our regular bridge employment scheme."
