Kwara Varsity to Train Unemployed Youths
The Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University, Malete, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, says the institution is collaborating with the state government to train unemployed youths in the state.
Na'Allah disclosed this on Monday in Malete in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said the university was embarking on the initiative to eradicate poverty and unemployment among school leavers in the state.
Na'Allah said the programme was also aimed at complementing government's efforts in the generation of employment opportunities.
The vice chancellor, who did not disclose the number of youths to be trained under the programme, said the university's Centre for Entrepreneurship had already registered some youths for the exercise.
He advised youths in the state to take advantage of the programme by engaging in profitable ventures.
Na'Allah, who described youths as the bedrock of society and future leaders, expressed the commitment of the university to engaging youths in meaningful ventures.
According to him, the university is committed to taking its entrepreneurship scheme to some secondary schools in the country.
Reacting to the mass failure in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the don attributed the development to lack of seriousness on the part of students.
He, however, advised the three tiers of government to invest more in education and create an enabling environment for teachers in order to address mass failure in public examinations. (NAN)
