UNILORIN to Introduce Multifunctional ID Card

The University of Ilorin says it is introducing a multi-function ID cards which would be used as cash guarantee card, ID cards and access control cards. The Vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin stated this in a chart with news men.

The Vice Chancellor said the University would put up some securely measures such that it is only the cards that can have access to them stating that there would also be some POS machines at designated places so that members of the community would transact business without cash.

"University of Ilorin is trying to embrace the internationalization drive whereby once you graduate from the University you will feel comfortable wherever you go. It is one of the best practices and it is obtainable internationally. We just came back from our tour to some international Universities and we found out that even to make use of the convenience you have to use control card" the VC explained.

The vice chancellor commended members of his team for their dedication and commitment over the last six month stating that they have demonstrated that they are always ready to serve the system so as to improve upon the system. He said the management is working tirelessly to ensure that all the goals set are achieved.

Professor Ambali said it's been interesting and challenging while thanking God for helping keep peace and tranquility in the University. He said though it has not been easy caring out the tasks especially with the foundations the founding fathers have laid but to the glory of God the journey is worth glorifying God.

"One good thing about the University of Ilorin is that it has been blessed in the past with very efficient and transparent leaders and coming on-board means it shouldn't be less" the Vice Chancellor stated.

Professor Ambali said he has put all machineries in motion to ensure that all the best practices put in place in the University are not lost and as such the achievements in the University would be sustained. He said those are the driving force to ensure that the university must not go down and the management has not been relenting in its efforts.

The Vice Chancellor commended the members of staff of the University stating that all results have been processed and would be approved within the shortest period. He said when he came on board he discovered that only about 10 percent of students were having hostel accommodation and as such he took it upon himself to sell the idea of inventing in hostel accommodation for students on campus. He commended members of the University Corporative societies for investing in hostel accommodation. He said be because of the stable calendar and with the adequate security measures put in-place by the management the investors are convinced their investments are safe. He said before the end of the year, the management hopes it would be increased to fifteen thousand.

"we thank God that base on our antecedents we have been having favourable responses from quite a number of organizations both within and outside Kwara and because of our internet access people are able to see what we have to offer and base on that am happy people have started responding." Professor Ambali explained.

While responding to questions on transportation challenges the students are facing, professor Ambali said on assumption, only one of the vehicles was on the road but a month after that, with the approval of the council the management got three additional buses to complement the one on ground. He said he has also made submission to TETFUND for an additional bus stating that by the time the vehicles are available all the students would be confortable. He said those at the college of health sciences would also be carried along.

The Vice chancellor said the University would not relent in ensuring that all students in the University dress properly while commending the committee on dress code.He said the University has been able to install some technological devices in some faculties so as to ensure they are IT compliant. He said the university is making efforts to ensure that all classes have a projector so that the lecturers would be projecting their lectures. He said the University would tighten its security to the classes so that when the devices are provided they would be well manned.

Professor Ambali said on assumption of office he decided that for all staff to be efficient in all they do they need training and training and with the help and efficiency of the Center for Research Development and In-house Training CREDIT the University has been able to provide adequate training for all members of staff. On the University Secondary School the Vice Chancellor said the school would be a secondary school of choice by both internal and external public stating that to make changes is not an easy task as so many people would be resistant to it at the first instance but after some time they will adapt.

"As for the renovation, it started about two weeks ago. As at now it has gotten to 60per-cent and if you go there now you will find out that things have really changed. Once the renovation is completed and people go there I am sure they would be glad and happy." Professor Ambali explained

At the college of health science, the Vice Chancellor said the management has improved the power supply and water system at the College of Health sciences COHS. He said the University has completed the stimulation center and is in the process of being equipped, he stated that when completed, the University would be the only one in Nigeria to have such facility. He stated further that the management intends to improve on the teaching facilities especially in the area of lecture halls and more offices.
