For allegedly assaulting bank officials, a lawyer, Mr. Oyeleye Joseph, 57 of No. 28, Asa Dam Road, Ilorin, has been arraigned before an Ilorin Magistrate Court.

Oyeleye was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal assault and causing hurt, contrary to Sections 265 and 244 of Penal Code Law.

The accused was indicted following a complaint on April 8 at ‘D’ Division Police Station, Ilorin, by one Salam Afusat of Ilorin Micro-Finance Bank, Oja Titun Area, Ilorin, that while she and her team went to the  address of the accused to recover a debt facility from a customer, Mrs. Yinka Oyeleye he criminally assaulted them.

According to the victim, Oyeleye became aggressive and started to abuse them, during which he pushed her.

The victim said further that in the process, she fell down and sustained injuries on her left hand, knees and legs.

Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter said that the accused committed the alleged offences.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Sanni Abdullahi stated that investigation into the matter is still in progress. He however, left the bail of the accused to the discretion of the court.

The defence counsel, Barrister Adekunle Aliyu prayed the court to admit the accused to bail since the law still presumed him innocent of the offences until the contrary is proved.

Magistrate Mogaji, who presided over the case admitted the accused to bail on self recognition and adjourned the matter to April 29, 2013 for further mention.
