Major Shake-Up in INEC: Kwara, Others Affected

There was a major shake up at the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on Tuesday affecting about 14 of its Directors.

An impeccable Source at the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja told newsmen in confidence last night that the affected Directors were either retired or redeployed and assigned to lower offices.

The Sunday Tribune had on Sunday exclusively hinted about the shake up following a marching order given to all the Directors by the Commission’s Chairman,Professor Attahiru Jega that those of them with about two years in service to retire voluntary and be paid their entitlements fully or be redeployed or forced to be retired which some of them reportedly accepted while some rejected and threatened court action against such arrangement.

Some of the affected Directors according to our sources are Mr Emmanuel Umueger, Public Affairs redeployed as Administrative Secretary and replaced with Mr Arabambi formerly of the General Administration services, GAS, Mr Abdulahi Uregei. Director of Finance and Administration, DFA replaced by Hajia Maria Salamatu, Mallam Ibrahim Bawa, Legal Services replaced by Mrs Augusta Ogaku, Mr Bara Edowutu, Estate and Works.

Others are Mallam Abdullahi Adamu,Head of Secretariat redeployed as Administrative Second, Kaduna. Mallam Sheu Muthai. Director Human Resources, retired.Mr Godwin Agwu,Admin Second, Kwara now Director in charge of procurement, Mrs Regina Omo-Agege, Director. Political Parties Monitoring and liason redeployed as Admin Second and Mr Idris Kuta Director Audit replaced by Mrs Felicia Tobi.

As at the Press time no official statement from the Commission but a competent source told our Reporter off record that the exercise would continue today.
