Businessman Donates Medical Equipment to Kwara Health Centres
All the health centres in the 12 wards in Gambari community of Ilorin-East Local Government Area of Kwara State have benefited medical equipment worth millions of naira.
The medical equipment included delivery kits, bed and mattresses, generating sets and other medical facilities.
Speaking at the presentation of the materials to the community at Okelele Health Centre, Ilorin, the donor, Alhaji Mohammed Akanbi-Oniyo, a businessman said the gesture was in partnership with Sweet Mother International, a non-government organisation (NGO) campaigning against maternal mortality.
Akanbi-Oniyo said the programme was to emulate the governor’s wife, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed who has been supporting her husband, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed in ensuring safe delivery for pregnant women and improving the health of the people.
“As you know, this is not my first programme. I have carried out other personal programmes tailored towards empowering the people of my community.
Like the saying that charity begins at home, I started from my ward in Gambari ward 1 by renovating and equipping Awodi Health Centre. I have now deemed it fit to extend my health programmes to the whole local government.
“I also pay school fees of students, distribute free JAMB, SSCE and NABTEB forms, among others.
“This is what our leader, Senator Bukola Saraki has always encouraged us to do by ensuring that we spend what God has blessed us for the betterment of our people,” he said.
The Chairperson of Ilorin-East Local Government, Hajia Aminat Ishola who was represented by her Vice, Alhaji Saad Salman commended the donor, saying the equipment would go a long way in complementing what the local government and the state were doing in the area of health.
The chairman added that the gesture would equally help in reducing maternal mortality rate which had become a national challenge.
