Ahmed Pledges Speedy Completion of Projects

Date: 2013-03-18

The Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has given an assurance that the rehabilitation and remodeling work at the General Hospital Ilorin will be completed soon to ensure enhanced access to quality healthcare.

Governor Ahmed gave this assurance while speaking with journalists after inspecting General Hospital, Mandate Water Booster Station, Michael Imoudu-Offa Ganmo Dual Carriage Way Street light all in Ilorin and the Afon-Eiyenkorin Road in Asa Local Government Area.

He explained that the rehabilitation and re-modelling of Ilorin General Hospital was critical to the government's policy thrust of 500 metre accessibility to quality health care as the hospital will also serve a cluster of primary health care centres in the area.

The Governor was assured that when completed the General Hospital will metamorphose into  the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital as the State owned-university will get its own teaching hospital when it becomes expedient.

“When Kwara State University requires to have a teaching hospital we are going to set up a fresh teaching hospital. Don’t forget that we must have a General Hospital. By the time we end up converting the General Hospital to a teaching hospital, we will have to build another General Hospital”.

“There is a role the General Hospital is supposed to play in the medical service delivery as most of our people prefer to access the primary and secondary health centres before accessing the tertiary health centre”, he said.

Governor Ahmed said he was happy that the contractors handling the projects have not only adhered to quality standards but have also pledged to deliver other on-going projects on schedule.

He promised that the on-the-spot inspection of all the projects embarked upon by his administration would be a continuous exercise in order to ensure that jobs are done and completed on schedule without comprising quality.
