Gov AbdulRazaq to Be Turbaned as Sardauna of Ilorin by Emir on September 15
Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is set to receive the prestigious Sardauna of Ilorin traditional title at a grand ceremony expected to attract prominent personalities from across Nigeria and beyond.
The turbaning ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Emir's Palace in Ilorin, according to a statement issued by the organising committee.
The title will be formally conferred on Governor AbdulRazaq by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, is expected to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony, further adding national significance to the event.
According to the organisers, the occasion is expected to attract an array of eminent personalities, including state governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, federal ministers, senior Presidency officials, political and party leaders, captains of industry and diplomats.
First-class traditional rulers, professionals and prominent sports personalities are also expected to attend, with distinguished guests anticipated from different parts of Nigeria and beyond.
The organising committee described the conferment of the Sardauna title on Governor AbdulRazaq as a significant cultural and traditional event, highlighting the importance of the title within the Ilorin Emirate and Northern Nigeria.
The Sardauna title is traditionally associated with leadership, courage, military command and statesmanship and is regarded by the organisers as one of the prestigious traditional titles in Northern Nigeria.
The ceremony is therefore expected to place the Ilorin Emirate in the spotlight as the ancient city prepares to welcome political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives and other prominent personalities.
The event will also provide an opportunity to showcase the cultural heritage and strength of the traditional institution of the Ilorin Emirate while bringing together dignitaries to honour the governor.
The organisers said the September 15 ceremony would attract the "creme de la creme" of Nigerian society and distinguished guests from around the world for what they described as a memorable occasion.
The statement was signed by Bashir Adigun on behalf of the Organising Committee.
