Muhammad Kamalud-deen University Records 100% NUC Accreditation Success, Plans Maiden Convocation for 2027

Date: 2026-08-26

Muhammad Kamalud-deen University (MKU), Ogidi, Ilorin, has recorded a 100 per cent success rate in its recent accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh, disclosed this while outlining the university's growth since it received its operating licence in June 2023.

Speaking during a radio interview programme, *The Beat*, Jimoh recalled that the university received its operational licence on 9 June 2023 and subsequently underwent the mandatory NUC resource-verification exercise in October of the same year.

Academic activities officially commenced in late 2023 with 15 degree programmes, while the institution's student population has since grown to more than 500.

Providing an update on regulatory compliance, the Vice-Chancellor said the university presented 13 programmes for NUC accreditation. Ten received full accreditation, while the remaining three secured interim accreditation.

According to him, the outcome means that members of the university's pioneer cohort, who are expected to enter their final year in October 2026, will be eligible to graduate and be mobilised for the National Youth Service Corps scheme ahead of the institution's maiden convocation in 2027.

Jimoh also disclosed that the university underwent an NUC institutional assessment from 20 to 23 April 2026 as part of the requirements for transitioning from a provisional licence to full operating status.

He added that MKU completed resource preparations in August 2026 for its proposed expansion into Law and Health Sciences.

The proposed programmes are Bachelor of Laws, Nursing Science, Public Health, Medical Laboratory Science and Doctor of Physiotherapy. The university is awaiting final regulatory approval before commencing admissions into the new faculties.

Established to preserve the educational legacy of the late Sheikh Muhammad Kamalud-deen Al-Adaby, founder of the Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, the university is also expanding access to tertiary education through targeted scholarships.

Jimoh said the proprietor offers full tuition waivers to students studying Arabic Language and Islamic Studies. The university also operates subsidised fee structures for STEM programmes such as Mathematics and Data Science to make quality tertiary education more affordable for young Nigerians.
