The National Association of University Students (NAUS) has passed a vote of confidence on the Vice-Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, while applauding the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for facilitating the establishment of a 500-capacity ICT Experience Centre at the institution.

The endorsement followed a strategic working visit to the university by the NAUS National President, Dr Meshach Anthony Nwankwo, who led a 10-member delegation on an inspection of completed and ongoing projects under the association's nationwide Campus Engagement and Institutional Assessment Tour.

During the visit, the delegation toured several facilities, including the ICT Experience Centre established through the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady.

Nwankwo described the facility as a major investment in the future of higher education, noting that it would equip students with the digital skills required to compete in the global economy.

According to him, the centre goes beyond physical infrastructure by creating opportunities for students to acquire knowledge in artificial intelligence, innovation, entrepreneurship, research and problem-solving.

"The ICT Experience Centre is more than a physical structure. It is a platform for equipping students with essential 21st-century skills in digital technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, entrepreneurship, research, creativity and problem-solving," he said.

He added that the intervention demonstrated Senator Oluremi Tinubu's commitment to advancing technology-driven education and expanding access to quality learning opportunities for Nigerian students.

The NAUS president urged governments, intervention agencies, development partners and corporate organisations to replicate similar digital learning centres in universities across the country.

The delegation also inspected the ongoing construction of the permanent Kwara State University Students' Union Secretariat, which Nwankwo described as a legacy project that would strengthen student leadership, democratic governance and institutional development.

He appealed to banks, telecommunications firms, technology companies, manufacturers, alumni associations and philanthropists to support the completion of the project through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

"Corporate Social Responsibility should go beyond brand visibility. Companies that derive enormous value from university communities should deliberately invest in projects that improve the lives of the students who sustain their businesses," he said.

He added that students would always advocate for improved learning conditions, stressing that organisations benefiting from university communities have a responsibility to give back through meaningful interventions.

Nwankwo also encouraged private sector organisations to support projects such as hostels, lecture theatres, innovation hubs, digital learning centres, renewable energy initiatives and recreational facilities capable of enhancing teaching and learning.

During a meeting with the university management, the NAUS president formally passed a vote of confidence on the Vice-Chancellor, describing him as one of Nigeria's most visionary and student-centred university administrators.

He commended the university for its achievements in infrastructure development, academic excellence, digital transformation, campus security and student welfare, adding that KWASU has continued to distinguish itself as a model university deserving of national recognition.

As part of the visit, the NAUS National Secretariat presented a commemorative souvenir to the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of his administration's commitment to educational excellence and student development.

The visit also featured the inauguration of the 10th Executive Council of the Kwara State University Students' Union.

Addressing the newly inaugurated executives, Nwankwo urged them to lead with integrity, accountability, transparency and discipline while placing students' welfare above personal interests.

He also commended the peaceful transition of leadership within the Students' Union, describing it as evidence of the university's strong democratic culture.

Nwankwo disclosed that the association's nationwide campus tour would continue across universities as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with university managements, assess institutional realities and promote practical solutions to challenges facing higher education in Nigeria.

He reaffirmed the association's commitment to working with universities, students' unions, government institutions and development partners to build a technology-driven, globally competitive and student-centred university system across the country.
