Kwara Assembly Reaffirms Support for Malaria Eradication, Healthcare Development
The Kwara State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting efforts aimed at eradicating malaria and expanding healthcare infrastructure across the state.
Chairman of the House Committee on Health and Nutrition, Seun Ogunniyi, gave the assurance during the launch of the 2026 Integrated Malaria Campaign in Ilorin, where he commended the progress recorded in the health sector under Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq's administration.
Ogunniyi said the government had continued to prioritise preventive healthcare through environmental sanitation, nutritional support and community engagement programmes, noting that the measures were designed to reduce malaria and other diseases, particularly among pregnant women and children under five.
He pledged continued legislative support for policies and programmes that would strengthen healthcare delivery and improve public health outcomes across the state.
Also speaking, the wife of the governor, Olufolake AbdulRazaq, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to achieving universal health coverage and commended health workers, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, local government chairmen, their spouses and development partners for supporting the campaign.
She urged parents and caregivers to ensure that every eligible child receives the full dose of the Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine plus Amodiaquine (SPAQ) preventive treatment during the exercise. She also distributed insecticide-treated mosquito nets to parents to strengthen protection against malaria during the rainy season.
The seasonal integrated malaria campaign, supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and development partners, targets high-risk local government areas through the distribution of preventive medicines and mosquito nets to reduce malaria transmission during the peak rainy season.
