NOA DG Shelves Governorship Ambition, Endorses BOB for 2027 Election

Date: 2026-04-03

The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has appealed to intending gubernatorial aspirants in Kwara state All Progressives Congress (APC) to support and work together for former party Chairman Dr Basir Omolaja Bolarinwa (BOB) to become the next governor of the state in May 2027.

In a statement personally signed by Mallam Issa-Onilu, he described Dr Bolarinwa as "a man that I believe truly deserves to be the next governor of Kwara state. Aspirants and party members across the state, let us work together for him."

Issa-Onilu, who shelved his gubernatorial ambition to support Dr Bolarinwa, recalled that, "In recent months, we have experienced a surge of political activity as many of us have stepped forward to vie for the governorship ticket of our dear party.

"I am genuinely excited by the impressive array of political leaders who have expressed interest, showcasing a powerful coalition of accomplished individuals poised to further the progress we've achieved over the past seven years."

Issa-Onilu also commended the maturity of each aspirant, but he said it's now time for all party members to support Bolarinwa.

"I want to commend the maturity demonstrated by each governorship aspirant throughout this process. With only one ticket available, we must rally to support the one who has been destined for it. We must approach this with the spirit of unity and faith, trusting that this is God's will. Our shared sense of duty and commitment to the welfare of our state must now drive our actions.

"As I rally behind the APC former State Chairman Dr Basir Omolaja Bolarinwa (BOB), I urge all aspirants and party members across the state to let us work together. He is a man who I believe truly deserves it," he said.

As the APC primaries get close, Issa-Onilu urged all aspirants for the national and state assemblies and their supporters to display understanding and offer unwavering commitment to the party.

"The journey to build on the successes of the Otoge Revolution has just begun. It is imperative that we fully engage in this collective project as is expected from every dedicated member of the APC. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for the remarkable work we've accomplished thus far. Whilst there remains much to be done, let us prepare ourselves for the challenges ahead. We succeeded in 2019 and 2023, and I am confident we can achieve victory once more in 2027," Issa-Onilu said.
