APC Chieftain Gbenga Oyekunle Declares for Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun House of Reps Seat

Date: 2026-03-23

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State, Gbenga Oyekunle, has declared his intention to contest the Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections, saying his ambition is driven by service rather than personal enrichment.

Oyekunle, popularly known as "Power," made the declaration at the end of a three-day stakeholders' consultation and Iftar sessions on Thursday held across Offa, Oyun and Ifelodun Local Government Areas.

The engagements, which began in Offa, moved to Oyun and ended in Ifelodun, brought together party leaders, traditional rulers, grassroots mobilisers and other stakeholders across the federal constituency.

Speaking at the Offa meeting held at Avalon Hotel, the aspirant said his track record of community service demonstrates his readiness to represent the people at the National Assembly.

"I am not going there to enrich myself but to deliver on the mandate of the people. If one cannot invest personal resources in the people, it will be difficult to manage public funds responsibly," he said.

He cited his interventions in community development, including the construction of over 22 boreholes, support for households during the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing empowerment initiatives through his foundation.

At the Oyun engagement held in Erinle, Oyekunle commended the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what he described as strides in infrastructure and human capital development, pledging to consolidate such gains if elected.

"I am not coming to learn on the job. My years of personal investment in our people is my proof of readiness. When given the mandate, I will ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every part of Ifelodun, Offa and Oyun," he said.

The aspirant also promised inclusive representation, with a focus on youth and women empowerment, as well as community-driven development.

The final leg of the consultation in Ifelodun, held at Igbomina House in Ganmo, attracted political stakeholders, legal practitioners and traditional rulers, including the Elese of Igbaja, Ahmed Awuni Babalola.

Reiterating his commitment, Oyekunle said his repeated attempts to contest elective office were driven by passion and loyalty to the people.

"I have contested over the years, and though the breakthrough is yet to come, my passion to serve has never reduced. I remain committed to protecting the interests of our people," he added.

Stakeholders across the three local governments commended his consistency and grassroots engagement, describing him as a loyal party member with a track record of community support.

The aspirant also announced financial support for party structures at the local government level, stressing that political success requires collective effort.

The Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency seat is expected to witness heightened political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, as aspirants across parties begin early consultations and mobilisation.
