Fire Outbreak Hits Sabo Oke Residence as Kwara Firefighters Avert Major Damage
The Kwara State Fire Service has averted the total destruction of a residential apartment following a fire incident on Fufu Street, opposite the Medical Centre, in the Sabo Oke area of Ilorin.
In a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Service, Hassan Adekunle, it was disclosed that the building comprised nine rooms, with the fire affecting only one room.
He explained that firefighters swiftly responded to a distress call and, through prompt and coordinated action, successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to the remaining rooms and neighbouring structures.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials in the affected room.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, advised residents to adopt preventive measures, including the installation of surge protectors, avoiding the overloading of electrical outlets, and carrying out routine checks on electrical wiring to minimise the risk of fire incidents.
