Suspended Lawmaker Saba Gideon Alleges Political Attack Over 2027 Ambitions
The suspended member of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Honourable Saba Gideon, has alleged that he is the victim of a politically motivated attack, characterising his three-month suspension as a clear abuse of legislative power.
The lawmaker representing Edu constituency claims that the move is intended to silence him in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. During a press briefing held in Ilorin, Gideon alleged that he was singled out for declining to support what he termed the Speaker’s gubernatorial aspirations.
It was previously reported that Gideon was suspended on 18 December 2025, following allegations that he leaked an audio recording from an internal meeting of the Assembly. However, he maintains that the recording did not involve legislative matters, asserting instead that it was a private conversation that revealed office gossip within the Speaker's quarters.
"The suspension is unconstitutional. I was not invited for any hearing or investigation," Gideon stated.
He further remarked, "No legislative rule gives anyone the right to override the constitutional privileges of an elected representative," as he described the action as a strategic attempt to intimidate those with opposing views within the House.
He argued that the suspension is part of a broader pattern of political victimisation, warning that such abuse of power threatens the integrity of the Assembly and undermines democratic norms in Kwara State.
