The wife of Kwara governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, has appealed to parents not to shirk in their responsibilities to their children who are physically challenged.

Mrs Ahmed, who bemoaned the cases of abandoned children on the basis of physical challenges, said that disability was not the making of those who have it.

The governor's wife, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said that her pet project, LEAH Charity Foundation had adopted many physically challenged under the "Adopt a Child", programme.

She recalled a case of a crippled primary school pupil, Abdulquadri Abdullateef of Alalubosa Primary School, in Ilorin who was abandoned by his parents because of his physical disability.

She said that LEAH Charity Foundation presented the pupil with a wheel chair and took care of his education needs under the "Adopt a Child" scheme.

According to her, the programme is used as a platform to take care of the educational needs of vulnerable and indigent pupils in the state.

She assured that her office would give more attention to the plights of children and their mothers in order to ensure a better society.
