OASIS Muslim Care Foundation Holds 10th School Health Enlightenment Programme on Drug Abuse
The OASIS Muslim Care Foundation on Thursday held the 10th edition of its Secondary School Health Enlightenment Programme, focusing on drug and substance abuse among students. The event took place at the Model Secondary School, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, with more than 200 students from various schools in attendance.
The programme featured a lecture delivered by Dr. Daud Sulaiman, a Consultant Psychiatrist and Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Budo Egba, Kwara State. Dr. Sulaiman warned students about the severe physical, mental, and social consequences of drug misuse. Drawing from his clinical experience, he shared real-life cases and emphasised the importance of resisting peer pressure and making informed, positive choices.
The event began with a Qur'an recitation by a student from Federal Staff School, Adewole, followed by opening remarks from Mallam Abdulazeez Alaaya, who served as the Master of Ceremony and also represented the Chairman of the Foundation. He highlighted the touching story that inspired the creation of OMCF and reaffirmed the organisation's commitment to supporting the sick, needy, and vulnerable in society.
Students were actively engaged throughout the session, with 10 students asking questions related to the dangers of drug abuse, a sign of their attentiveness and understanding. Teachers from invited schools, including representatives from Federal Staff School, Ilm Trendsetter Islamic School, and Mohammed Kamaldeen College, also made observations and encouraged students to distance themselves from harmful behaviours and negative peer influence.
