Kwara Records 36% IGR Growth, Ranked 5th Least Dependent on Federal Revenue
The Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS), Shade Omoniyi, has revealed that Kwara achieved a 36 percent year-on-year growth in internally generated revenue (IGR) between 2023 and 2024, making it the fifth least dependent state on federally distributed revenue in Nigeria.
Omoniyi made the disclosure on Thursday at the grand finale of the 2025 KW-IRS Tax Club Quiz Competition, held at the Ilorin Innovation Hub. She emphasized the agency's commitment to building a fair, transparent, and efficient tax system that fosters public trust and compliance.
She backed up the state's fiscal performance by citing the BudgIT 2025 State of States Report, which ranked Kwara third nationwide in subnational fiscal performance, a significant jump from 10th in 2021 and fourth in 2023.
Expressing gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Omoniyi described his leadership as visionary and results-driven, highlighting the governor's continuous investment in education and fiscal reforms.
"Kwara also achieved a 36 percent year-on-year growth in internally generated revenue between 2023 and 2024, and is now the fifth least dependent state on federally distributed revenue," she said.
In the competition, Shepherd School, Lafiagi, emerged as the overall winner with 20 points. Government Secondary School, Lafiagi, and St. Anthony's Secondary School, Ilorin, finished second and third, respectively. Cash prizes of N2.5 million, N1.5 million, and N1 million were awarded to the top three schools, while consolation prizes were given to other participants.
The event, attended by traditional rulers and education stakeholders, featured 99 schools from across the state, showcasing Kwara's commitment to promoting tax education and civic responsibility among young people.
