25 Year Old Hammed Tunde Dies After Being Stabbed by Friend Gafar in Oja Gboro
A 25-year-old man, Hammed Usman Tunde, has been stabbed to death, allegedly by his friend, identified simply as Gafar, during a quarrel over a woman.
The tragic incident, Daily Trust gathered, occurred on Tuesday at the Oja Gboro area of Ilorin. The two friends, who were described as close companions, initially engaged in an argument while buying sugarcane from a trader.
Witnesses reported that the heated exchange quickly turned violent. The suspect, 21-year-old Gafar, allegedly stabbed Tunde on the chest with a knife.
The victim, a resident of Ile-Soro 2 in the Oja Gboro, Isale Koko area, was rushed to a nearby private hospital. He was subsequently referred to the General Hospital, Ilorin, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect, a native of Ile Olowo in the same area, reportedly fled immediately after the attack.
His whereabouts and those of his family members remain unknown as of the time of filing this report.
The deceased's sister described the killing as heartbreaking, calling on the state government and security agencies to ensure justice is served.
She said her brother was peaceful and did not deserve to die in such a cruel manner.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust during a telephone chat on Thursday.
According to her, "Yes, the command is aware, and the CP, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered that the case be transferred to the CID for discreet investigation. However, no arrest has been made."
