Gambari's Daughter Writes Sharia Court over Father's Estate
Fifteen years after the ninth Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zuhukarnaini Gambari died, there is trouble in his household.
One of his 48 children, Hajia Bikisu Gambari, wants his estate shared.
Hajia Gambari, the Action Congress (AC) Kwara Central Senatorial candidate at the April 21 National Assembly election, has applied to the Sharia Court of Appeal, Ilorin for the sharing of the estate.
The late Alhaji Gambari, died on February 23, 1992 after a 32-year reign, according to the Princess in her letter to the Registrar of the Sharia Court.
The letter, is titled "Application for the Sharing of the 9th Emir of Ilorin, late (Dr) Alhaji Zulukarniani Gambari’s Estate Who Died on 23rd February 1992."
It was not possible to confirm if the court had received the letter as at the time of filing this report.
It reads: "I, Bilkisu Tinuola Gambari, one of the 48 eligible children and heirs to the estate of my late father named above humbly apply to this honourable court under the enabling law for the sharing of my father’s estate. The late Emir ruled in Ilorin Emirate for about 37 years before his demise in 1992.
"Among the survivals (sic) of the late Emir is the incumbent Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Gambari (the 11th Emir of Ilorin) who doubles as the eldest son of the late 9th Emir of Ilorin. The said late 9th Emir of Ilorin left a vast estate at his demise which are spread all over Ilorin and Lagos State ranging from landed properties, personal belongings and other material things.
"Sometimes in year 2000, the heirs of the late 9th Emir wrote a letter of demand and or request to the incumbent Emir for the sharing of the Estates of the late 9th Emir. In response to the letter, the incumbent Emir, a beneficiary of the same caused a committee to be set up. Members of the Committee include all brothers of the late 9th Emir of Ilorin. The Committee collate (sic) all the known estates of the said late Emir and rendered a report that was communicated to all heirs of the Estate.
"When after waiting for another seven years after the report of the committee, I consulted my counsel for advice. My counsel caused a letter to be served on the incumbent Emir requesting him to facilitate and make available the Estate for sharing. The incumbent Emir of Ilorin, who had control over all the said Estates, replied my counsel’s letter via his counsel’s letter dated the 9th of July 2007.
"The 9th Emir of Ilorin, died 16 years ago and his estate remained unshared till date. In view of the above and in the light of the developments, I urge this court to come to my aid in distributing the Estate of my father. Find attached herewith the list of all the heirs to the estate of my late father."
