Governor AbdulRazaq Fully Funds Kwara United's CAF Trip, Including Media Delegation
Kwara United have received a major boost ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie against Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko thanks to the unwavering support of Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
The governor, through the Kwara State Sports Commission (KWSC), has assumed full responsibility for the team's logistics and travel arrangements, ensuring a smooth departure for the 30-man contingent comprising 23 players and seven officials.
This gesture underscores the state government's determination to see the Harmony Boys excel on the continental stage.
The team departed Ilorin for Lagos and will fly out to Accra on Friday morning.
They are set to face Kotoko on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
In a rare move, Governor Abdulrazaq also extended his support to the media by covering the travel costs of members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara Chapter.
This ensures comprehensive coverage of the team's campaign and guarantees that Kwara's story will be fully documented.
Kwara United's Media Officer, Ayodeji Ismail, praised the governor's all-round commitment:
"I can assure you that we are well covered by the Governor ahead of the clash in Ghana. His attention to both the team and the media shows his broad vision for sports development."
Team captain, Afeez Musa, said the players are inspired by the backing they have received: "We know what is at stake and we are focused on securing a positive result in Ghana. The support from the Governor and the people of Kwara gives us extra motivation."
Governor Abdulrazaq's intervention is consistent with his administration's broader investment in sports development from upgrading facilities to supporting athletes' welfare and youth programmes.
His steady support has seen Kwara United remain competitive both at home and on the continent.
