Aliko Dangote Takes Over N1.1 Billion Hostel Project for Ilorin Central Mosque
The President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has assumed full responsibility for the construction of a proposed 250-bed hostel project by the Ilorin Central Jumma'at Mosque in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Dangote has communicated his decision to fully finance the N1.1 billion ultramodern facility located within the University of Ilorin precincts to the mosque's management.
Once completed, the hostel will generate sustainable rental income from students, with all proceeds dedicated to the maintenance and development of the mosque.
Shehu AbdulGafar, Secretary of the Mosque's Board of Trustees, disclosed the development at a press conference in Ilorin on Sunday, expressing profound gratitude to Dangote for stepping in to ensure the realisation of the long-delayed project.
He described the intervention as a major boost to the mosque's vision of self-sustaining community development through strategic investment in education and infrastructure.
He said the committee had already signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Ilorin on the project.
The mosque, he said, will own and manage the hostel for 21 years, after which ownership will revert to the University of Ilorin.
AbdulGafar said that, in addition to sponsoring the project, Dangote has also pledged a monthly donation of N5m to support the mosque's regular maintenance until the hostel project is fully completed, which he started last month.
He said that Dangote's gesture would go a long way in ensuring the sustainability of the mosque's operations while also providing modern accommodation for students of the university.
