Six-Year-Old Scrabble Prodigy Abdulsalam Yusuf Wins Gold at National Youth Games

Date: 2025-09-08

Six-year-old Abdulsalam Yusuf, a Scrabble prodigy from Kwara State, has emerged as the youngest athlete at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State and has already made history by winning a gold medal.

Competing against older and more experienced players, the Primary One pupil of Bethel Primary School, Offa, demonstrated an extraordinary command of language, mastering complex words that surpass even the knowledge of seasoned players three times his age.

His victory in a competition dominated by older participants underscores his remarkable talent, strategic thinking, and calm, focused demeanour under pressure.

Abdulsalam attributes his success to his deep love for the game, relentless practice, and the unwavering support of his parents, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and his coach, Bolakale Adisa Mogaji.

His achievement has been widely celebrated as a shining example of early excellence and the power of encouragement in nurturing young talent.

Abdulsalam's brilliance and way with words didn't just impress the judges and scrabble enthusiasts across the country, it also placed Kwara firmly on the map as a state that prioritises youth education and talent development.

His remarkable victory stands as a testament to Governor AbdulRazaq's sustained investment in the education and empowerment of Kwara's young people over the years.
