Kwara Governor Approves Stadium Renovation to Bring CAF Confederation Cup Home
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has approved immediate renovations to the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl at Ilorin's George Agbazika Innih Stadium, following a recent assessment by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials.
The directive, issued after NFF representatives inspected the facility last week, aims to upgrade the stadium to host Kwara United's continental campaign for the 2026 CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds—ending the team's reliance on Lagos venues for home matches. In 2022, the Harmony Boys were forced to play all home fixtures at Lagos' Mobolaji Johnson Arena due to infrastructure limitations.
Contractors have already commenced pitch restoration work, with completion targeted before Kwara United's Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) home opener against Ikorodu City on Sunday, 24 August 2025. Governor AbdulRazaq emphasised: "This renovation ensures our team competes proudly on home soil, strengthening Ilorin's status as a football destination."
The project aligns with Kwara State's broader investment in sports infrastructure following Kwara United's historic President's Federation Cup victory in June 2025.
