Kwara Police Intensify Search for Abducted Petrol Dealer Amid Rising Kidnapping Cases
The Kwara State Police Command is intensively investigating the abduction of petrol dealer Abbas Daniyan and his manager, Abubakar Issa, which occurred 23 days ago in Gbugbu town, Edu Local Government Area (LGA).
Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo disclosed the ongoing probe during a weekend press briefing in Ilorin, alongside the arrest of 37 suspects linked to other crimes. He stated that officers are searching forested areas to locate those responsible for the kidnapping.
Commissioner Ojo also revealed that three additional kidnap cases have been reported since the May 10 abduction. Among these, a recent incident involved Aishat Tahiru of Maiduku area, Zango, Ilorin, who reported her missing child to Kulende Police Station at approximately 22:00 hours on 25 May 2025.
The police chief underscored efforts to address rising insecurity and called on the public to assist investigations by providing critical information.
"She stated that at about 2130 hours, while observing her evening prayers, she left her two months old baby, Adam Tahiru, asleep on the sofa in her room.
"Shortly after, she instructed her daughter, Mariam to to check on the baby, but to her dismay, the child was nowhere to be found."
The commissioner said an alarm was raised immediately, prompting neighbours to conduct a search round the vicinity, but despite their efforts, the baby could not be located.
"The matter was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Ilorin for further in-depth investigation."
Ojo revealed that "tragically, during the course of investigation, the lifeless body of the baby was discovered in a well within the same community.
"Following intelligence gathering and preliminary findings, eight suspects were arrested and are currently undergoing rigorous interrogation at the state CID."
Other suspects were arrested for criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms, criminal conspiracy, aiding and abetting, culpable homicide and house breaking among others.
