73% of Kwara Pensioners Unregistered as State Tightens Payment Rules

Date: 2025-05-26

Hauwa Nuru, Kwara State's Commissioner for Finance, has revealed that 73.2% of state pensioners remain unregistered with the Kwara State Residents Registration Agency (KWASRRA), despite nearly a year of government advocacy to encourage enrolment.

Speaking in a statement issued by Babatunde Toyin Abdulrasheed, the Ministry's Press Secretary, Commissioner Nuru stated: "We have campaigned for almost a year. The state began this process over a year ago. The government has provided ample opportunities for all workers and pensioners to register. We now have no choice but to pay only those whose details we can verify, in line with our commitment to cleaning the payroll and freeing up resources."

The commissioner added that the administration had uncovered evidence of payroll fraud orchestrated by a criminal network, which has been reported to the police for further investigation and potential prosecution.

This cartel is deploying every trick to frustrate the KWSRRA process and the verification of authentic workers and pensioners. adding that they are getting them.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has approved the upward review of monthly pension by N10,000 across board for all pensioners in the State.

"The date for the implementation of this agreement for pension review in the Kwara State Public Service shall be effective from 1st June, 2025," according to an agreement that the Government signed with the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) at the instance of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) on Friday, May 23rd, 2025.
