Kwara Victim of Suspected Cult Violence Pleads for Help to Pay Hospital Bills
A survivor of a suspected cult-related attack in Ilorin, Kwara State, which killed a 19-year-old teenager, Iyangbe Jeffrey, at a football viewing centre in the Coca-Cola area, has appealed for public assistance to cover his medical expenses.
Emmanuel Mmuo, a 41-year-old man known locally as Milkose, was shot during the incident on 9 April 2025. He now requires financial support to fund his ongoing treatment.
According to Mmuo, who spoke with our correspondent on Sunday, the tragic incident happened when a group of armed men invaded a sports viewing centre where he was watching a football match.
"We had just arrived at the sports viewing centre when about five or more guys invaded and started shooting sporadically. Everyone scampered for safety, and I was hit by three bullets," he recounted.
Despite being severely injured, Mmuo narrated that he managed to escape and was rushed to a nearby hospital by a friend on a motorcycle.
"I managed to escape, though a bit unconscious. I fell in front of my house and my friend rushed in with his motorcycle and took me to a nearby hospital. Seven other victims later died in the hospital," he said.
He further disclosed that he had received some support from his club members, the Anambra State Association of Town Union, (ASATU), and other well-wishers, who have donated over N890,000 towards his medical bills.
However, he still requires additional assistance to cover his treatment costs. He said the incident has also had a devastating impact on his livelihood.
"I've been finding it difficult to feed my family since the incident. My barbeque business has suffered because I can no longer use my hand, and my wife is heavily pregnant. I'm counting on the kindness of strangers to get back on my feet", he added. Another victim, simply identified as Ola who escaped unscathed, described the incident as "a close call.
"I was lucky to get out alive. When the shooting started, I ran for my life. I'm still shaken by what happened, and I'm grateful to be alive," Ola said, reflecting on the trauma inflicted by the attack.
