Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Praises Kwara's Squash Success, Urges Other Governors to Invest in Sports
The 6th edition of the Olusegun Obasanjo National Squash Championship has been concluded in fanfare with the Kwara State squash team claiming 2 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals, underscoring Kwara's unparalleled records in the country's squash tournament, as reported on the Kwara State Government Facebook page.
While the Kwara squash team has become a key figure in the national squash tournament over the years, its stunning performance at the just-concluded championship has drawn commendations for the team and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for investing hugely in sports.
Following the conclusion of the national tournament, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, in his well-articulated valedictory speech, attributed the Kwara Squash team's historic performance to the investment of Governor Abdulrazaq in sport, particularly squash. The former President urged other governors in the country to follow Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq's path in investing in sports, which he said would aid the development of sports in the country.
Recall that the Governor Abdulrazaq-led administration has recently completed 10 state-of-the-art Squash Courts in Ilorin Stadium Complex. Like several of his signature projects, the squash courts, experts have said, are among the best in the world.
Sports analysts have attributed the historic performance of the Kwara Squash team at the 6th OONSC to the Governor Abdulrazaq-led administration's construction of the 10 modern squash facilities, which they said allowed the squash team to prepare well for the tournament.
