Investment In Sports Has Helped Tame Illicit Drug Among Youth In Kwara – Coach, Mogaji
Coach Bola Mogaji, executive chairman, Kwara State Sports Commission, KSC, has itemized gains of the unprecedented investment in sports in the state, saying that among other things, increasing participation of youths in sports has helped in managing drug related offences in the state.
Coach Mogaji said that the commission's work in the last three years since the creation of the sports agency helped security agency like the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency to cut illicit drug supply to youths.
“Before we came on board, the stadium was like a distribution point for illicit drugs.
“But with collaboration and massive investments in sports, we were able to reverse this,” he said.
The KSC Boss disclosed that his commission was instrumental to the success of a high stake operation by NDLEA that led to the arrest of coach who who was a kingpin in the supply of drugs to athletes in Ilorin.
Coach Mogaji made this disclosure at the third Sports Hard Talk, put together by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Kwara State chapter.
The sports administrator, also during the interactive session with sports journalists, made clarification on the ongoing renovations in the Indoor Sports Hall of the state stadium saying that the facility will be completed in 12 months.
According to him, N2 billion has been earmarked for the project.
“It's a promise fulfilled by the governor.
“The governor promised to give a significant face lift to the facility and he did,” said Coach Mogaji.
