Flood: Kwara Denies Dumping Relief Materials
The Kwara state government has refuted a media report that relief materials meant for victims of last year's flood disaster in the state are wasting away in a "warehouse".
The special adviser to the governor on Emergency and Relief Services, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi said in a statement signed by Alhaji Dauda Nurudeen, a member of the state Flood Relief and Rehabilitation Committee, that all the relief materials had been distributed through the affected local government councils in the state before the end of last year.
Daily Trust had last week visited two villages affected in Lafiaji, Edu Local Government Area of the state and spoke with flood victims who confirmed the receipt of relief materials from government representatives.
However, the victims in Likpata and Godangi, two remote villages near River Niger lamented the inadequacy of the relief materials.
The community head of Likpata, Mr Jibril Mohammed called on government to promptly assist the community with fertilizer to enable them start farming immediately, disclosing that their farms were destroyed by the flooding of last year.
