43-year-old man dies while dredging well in Kwara
A 43-year-old man on Tuesday fell into a well and died in the Egbejila area, Ilorin in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The man, whose remains were recovered from the well by men of the Kwara State Fire Service, was identified as Abdulqadir Murtala of a compound opposite the Oniguguru compound, the Oko-Erin area, Ilorin.
Murtala believed to be a well digger, reportedly fell into a well where he was working behind Global Primary and Secondary School, Bayi Community in the Egbejila area.
The spokesman for the fire service, Hassan Adekunle, in a statement, said, “The incident occurred this (Tuesday) morning around 10.30am and the Brigade was summoned through a telephone call by one Mr David, a resident of the area.
“However, firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr Mohammed Abdulwasiu, a family member of the deceased.
“According to the report, the victim went to re-dredge a well and during the process of dredging, one of his legs slipped off the ground and he eventually tumbled into the well.”
Adekunle said the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the incident and urged the public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities.
