Farmers trained on modern yam production
Some 80 farmers across the 16 Local Government Areas of Kwara State have been trained by the Kwara State Agricultural Development Project Office (KWADP) on Climatic Resilient Practices in Yam Production and Processing.
Declaring the workshop open, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Gidado Alakawa said the present administration had invested heavily in the agriculture sector, noting that the training would also add to the state government's efforts in expanding the capacity building of the farmers in modern methods of agriculture.
Mallam Alakawa advised farmers to engage in value addition in order to achieve higher profits in their farming business.
The Commissioner also urged the participants to take advantage of the training to increase food production in the state.
The representative of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Adejoke Raheem said the workshop was organised to train farmers on modern agricultural practices that could withstand the challenges of irregular rainfall due to climate change.
The Managing Director, KADP, Dr Khadijat Ahmed urged the participants to ensure that the knowledge gained at the workshop was spread to other farmers.
