Offa Political Stakeholders Endorse Sen Ashiru, Asks Governor, Deputy, Others To Back Choice

Date: 2022-05-24

Political Stakeholders in Offa, Kwara State, under the platforms of the Central Working Committee, CWC, and Elders, all of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have urged Governor AbdulRahaman Abdul Razak, his deputy, Kayode Alabi, state chairman of the party, Sunday Fagbemi, to back their choice of Senator Lola Ashiru for the party ticket to return for a second term to represent Kwara South.

In separate letters to the governor, his deputy, and party chairman, endorsed by James Adebayo Shogo, Elder and Caucus Chairman of the political stakeholding group, and Dr. AbdulLateef Saliu, his secretary, the group argued that Ashiru as the standard-bearer of APC is the only way the party will triumph in the forthcoming election in 2023.

“We have, therefore, unanimously nominated him, Ashiru on behalf of our Party members and as well as to support him in his bid for a second term tenure having performed wonderfully and creditably in his first tenure as the Senator representing Kwara South District of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the group said in the letters, copies of which were made available to selected journalists.

Currently, Abdulwahab Agbaje, a former commissioner under Governor Abdulrazak, resigned to contest the party ticket with Ashiru, a situation that has generated no less political interest in the state.

There had been a similar scenario after Yahaya Seriki, a friend of the governor also threw his hat in the ring to wrestle the ticket with Yahaya Oloriegbe, at the Kwara Central Senatorial District, and was cheered along by no other than Musbau Esinrogunjo, an aide to the governor.

But the move by the Offa Political leaders are believed to be just one out of similar endorsements from constituencies with the Kwara South Senatorial District that are expected to follow soon.

The Offa caucus of APC stakeholders however say that the choice of Ashiru rests on not only the need to see the party win at the polls but also stemming from the senator's proven record in office.

“We have found Senator Ashiru as the most suitable to fly the party's senatorial flag for the 2023 general elections.

“It is imperative for our Party to field a candidate with Cognate experience, historical political network in Kwara State and in Nigeria.

” In addition, such candidate must have a winning advantage and competitive edge over other aspirants,” the caucus said.
