Transporters 'Divert' N17m Worth Of Iron Rod In Kwara
Two transporters, Hycienth Odinaka, and Sanusi Muhammed have been remanded by a magistrate's court sitting in Ilorin for allegedly diverting iron rods worth N17m.
They were dragged to court for offenses bordering on theft and obtaining under false pretense.
According to the police charge sheet, one Gbenga Awoyele, a businessman dealing in iron rods reported the matter alleging that the two defendants swindled him of N17.5m
"The complainant said he purchased 40 tons of Iron rods worth N17m from Abuja Steel Mills Limited, after which he entrusted it to Odinaka, a transporter, to deliver in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State at the cost of N500,000 dully paid.
"But he criminally conspired with Sanusi Muhammed and one Adamu Zara who is now at large to divert the goods to an unknown destination", the sheet noted.
Further investigation, according to the police, also revealed that Odinaka deceived the complainant by forwarding one truck with number plate GG-L 132 BZ, which later turned out to be false.
The prosecutor, Nosiru Yusuf, sought their remand to allow the police to conclude the investigation.
Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Mohammed, in his ruling, ordered the remand of the defendants at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Ilorin.
He adjourned the case to April 17th, 2022 for further mention.
