Sambo, Obasanjo, Dangote Others Grace Saraki's Fidau
Vice President Namadi Sambo; a former President of Nigeria; Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and billionnare businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, were among the dignitaries that on Sunday attended the Fidau for former Senate Leader, Dr. Olusola Saraki, who died on Wednesday.
Vice-President, Namadi Sambo who also paid a condolence visit to the home of Saraki, described the former Senate Leader of the Second Republic and Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Olusola Saraki, as a quintessential politician.
Sambo said the late Saraki had a lot of passion for the poor and contributed immensely to the enhancement of democracy in Nigeria.
He added that Saraki was a detribalised Nigerian who built bridges across the nation.
Speaking during the prayer at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, Kwara State, the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Muhammed Bashir, said the deceased was a great leader.
He said people should be ready for death, adding that "death is a necessary end".
According to him, Saraki lived a life of love for the common people and unrelentlessly assisted people.
"The kind of politics Saraki played is not that of killing people but that of developing his people and their communities," he said.
Bashir urged members of the Saraki family to ensure that they sustained the legacy of their father.
The Imam appealed to Saraki's associates to continue to identify with the family of the late 'Strongman of Kwara politics.'
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Medical Association on Sunday paid glowing tributes to the late Saraki, with a call on the Kwara State Government to rename its Government House after him.
The association, which advised the Federal Government to name a national monument after Saraki, also called on his son, Senator Bukola Saraki, "to seek ways and means of initiating a sustainable cancer diagnosis and treatment centre in Nigeria."
The NMA said, the cancer centre would "serve as a panacea for reducing the burden of this emerging epidemic of our time that respects neither age nor social status. In doing so, the late Elder statesman's memory would remain indelible in the heart and lives of the people he so much loved and cared for"
