Date: 2021-01-24

The Federal Government on Saturday distributed food items and other materials to 260 households that were internally displaced by flood in some parts of Ilorin, the Kwara capital in 2020.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items were distributed to the beneficiaries by the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMIDP).

The items were handed over by the Director, Refugees and Migrants Affairs at the Commission, Mr. Hassan Tai, on behalf of the Federal Commissioner of the Commission, Sen. Basheer Mohammed-Lado.

Some of the food items and nonfood items received by the beneficiaries, who are all from Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state, included 17 bags of 50 kilogramme of rice, 13 bags of 100 kilogramme of beans and 20 bags of 100 kilogramme of Gari.

Others were 20 cartons of palm oil, 30 cartons of groundnut oil, millets, mattresses, mats, grinding machines, sewing machines, cooking stoves and other materials.

Mohammed-Lado reaffirmed the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to the welfare of displaced persons in the country.

He said the federal government was currently embarking on the construction of 600 housing units for internally displaced persons in Borno, Zamfara, Katsina and Edo states.

Mohammed-Lado advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to further improve their well-being and their families.

The facilitator of the relief items and member representing Asa/Ilorin West constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhaji Yekeen Alajagusi, who was represented by Alhaji Abdullateef Alakawa, thanked the federal government for the gesture.

The North Central Zonal coordinator of the Commission, Hajia Jumai Ahmed, confirmed that all the beneficiaries were actually displaced by flood in 2020.

Mrs. Naimat Ahmed, Hajia Marian Dadi and Mr. Abubakar Suleiman, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the federal government for the intervention.

They said the food and nonfood items would no doubt alleviate their sufferings. (NAN)
