Kwara PDP: Mimiko Victory a Rejection of Occupation

Date: 2012-10-22

The people of Ondo State have been commended for opting for continuity and standing firm against the Action Congress of Nigeria's (ACN) attempt to occupy the Southwest in last weekend's governorship election in the state.

Commenting on the outcome of the Ondo State Governorship in which the incumbent governor was re-elected, Kwara PDP's Director of Publicity, Alhaji Mas'ud Adebimpe, said the ACN's dismal performance in the election signified the people's rejection of the regional party's expansionist agenda under which it wanted to appropriate the whole of the Southwest as a vassal of its leadership.

'Like Kwarans, the people of Ondo must be congratulated for refusing the ACN's attempt to occupy Ondo and make it one of the states controlled and exploited from Lagos by pseudo-democrats with no regard for internal democracy. They have voted for continuity over occupation.

That ACN performed woefully in the elections shows that its influence is on the wane in the southwest as people have seen through the failed attempt to politically annex the Southwest for selfish gains', said Adebimpe.

While calling on the people of Kwara State to remain vigilant against any attempt by any undemocratic party to hijack the state and turn it into a fiefdom of their political overlords, the PDP called on the people to continue their support for the people-friendly Abdulfatah Ahmed administration.

The PDP also applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the efficient conduct of the elections, adding that the Jonathan administration's electoral reforms has sounded the death knell for the politics of manipulation and trickery favoured by the ACN.
