Kwara Islamic schools ready for resumption

Date: 2020-09-16

Kwara state government has been urged to consider reopening of schools to allow students to write their terminal examinations across the state.

Addressing newsmen in Ilorin, the spokesman of the Association of Islamic Model Schools in the state, Prof. Abdulrazaq Oniye said: " it will be catastrophic for the state if schools do not reopen as soon as possible."

He said that the experiment about reopening of schools that has inadvertently taken place with partial re-opening of schools for certificate examination has shown that the fear about reopening of schools is exaggerated.

According to Prof. Oniye, the proprietors of Islamic Model Schools are ready to observe COVID-19 safety protocols in their schools, therefore requesting the state government to reopen schools in the state by September 21, 2020.

He said the reopening is necessary to ensure the third term of the 2019/2020 academic session is not skipped.

Professor Oniye, however, commended the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the bold steps taken so far in addressing the challenges facing the education sector in the state.
