Traditional Rulers in Kwara assured of adequate government attention

Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari Traditional Rulers in Kwara State have been assured of adequate government attention to compliment their role as custodians of customs and tradition in their various domains.

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Architect Aliyu Mohammad Saifudeen gave the assurance during an unscheduled inspection visit to the chalets of First Class Traditional Rulers in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The purpose of the visit, the Commissioner disclosed, was to get first hand information on the status of the chalets and assess the conditions of facilities provided in them in order to ensure that the well-being of the monarchs were adequately taken care of.

Architect Saifudeen, who was accompanied on the visit by top government officials of the Ministry including the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Alabere, disclosed further that the welfare of the Royal Fathers was very paramount to the State Government.

According to him, "no stone would be left unturned to ensure that maximum comfort was provided for the monarchs to make their stay comfortable while in the State Capital".

Synergy between government and traditional rulers

In recognition of the importance of the traditional institutions in the State, the Commissioner said he visited the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari on assumption of duty in the Ministry to seek his royal blessing and also synergize on how to reduce the menace of social vices in our communities.

The Director of Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, while conducting the Commissioner round told him that most of the palaces of the monarchs were already begging for repairs and installation of security gadgets in the chalets.

Responding on this, Architect Saifudeen admitted that most of the buildings and premises required comprehensive renovation.

He therefore, assured the Royal Fathers of adequate government attention that is befitting of their status like their counterparts elsewhere.
