Bureau Debunks Sale of Eid Ground, Emir Palace Rumours

The Bureau of Lands in Kwara State said it has never acquired or planned to acquire Ilorin Eid praying ground and Emir's Palace as being rummoured in some quarters.

The Director General of Bureau, Mr. Tope Daramola who gave the clarification while briefing members of the House Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development during its oversight visit, said both lands had been occupied before the inception of the bureau.

He said as a son of the soil, he and his management would never tampered with religious or traditional institutions.

He also made further clarification that lands belonging to Ilorin Teachers College is neither acquired nor allocated by the state government.

Daramola said the bureau has never acquired or allocated any land belonging to school or religious institutions in the state.

The director general explained that Land Use Act which is the law guiding the conducts and activities of the bureau, state the procedure through which land can be acquired or allocated.

He added that the level of challenges faced at the inception of bureau is a signal for it to do things in accordance with the laid down rules and regulations.

He said "it is capital NO that the bureau has acquired Ilorin Eid Praying ground, Emir's Palace, ITC land or any land belonging to schools or religious institutions".

He appealed to people with any proof of evidence to present it for further clarification.
Speaking further, he said initiation of discussion with customary land owners has always been the first step taking by the bureau before acquiring any land.

He said the process of allocating lands was very transparent based on the interest of the people.
