Opposition: Kwara governor calls for spiritual intervention

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state has urged spiritual and religious leaders in the state to pray for the success of his administration against alleged activities of the opposition.

Speaking in Igbaja town, Ifelodun local government area of the state at the 55th graduation ceremony of ECWA Theological Seminary and second ECWA College of Education at the weekend, the governor said that his opponents in the March 9, 2019 governorship elections were out to frustrate his administration.

Represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, the governor said: "I urge you all to pray for our government. Those we defeated at the poll are around and they will not want us to succeed. Kwara has suffered a lot. The state suffered over 40 years in the hands of one group.

"They still want to come back as they believe the state belongs to them. I always tell people that we did not win the elections, God won the elections for us," he said.

He also called on institutions of higher learning in the country to instil discipline in their students to ensure an egalitarian society.

He noted that the products turn out by the various institutions would impact on children.

He called on the graduates to impact positively on society and teach children and their congregation the way of the Lord.

Mr Alabi emphasised the need for attitudinal change on the part of the people, advising the graduates to be good ambassadors of the Institution.

The Provost of the Seminary, Rev Stephen Baba, urged pastors to take the matter of character and integrity moulding very seriously.

"To entrench good governance on this nation and the church of Jesus Christ, pastors need to take the matter of character and integrity very seriously and help in building men and women of sound character and transparent integrity," Rev Baba added.

He said that a total number of 352 students graduated this year from the Seminary with 18 from the ECWA College of Education.

Rev Baba added that the Seminary teaches the true word of God and ensure balanced academic research, moral and spiritual development of the students for the benefits of universal church and humanity.

The Provost enumerated some of his achievements and challenges which include the provision of the clinic, completion of road and perimeter fencing.
