Rainstorm on Saturday destroyed buildings and some other properties of two major federal agricultural institutions in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The institutions are the Agricultural Rural and Management Training Institute and National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation.

The rainstorm, which lasted about 30 minutes blew off roofs of offices, halls and hostels at the two nearby institutes.

The storm was said to have also wreak havoc on Okanle and Jimba-Oja, which are nearby villages to ARMTI and NCAM.

The Executive Director of ARMTI, Samuel Afolayan, told journalists in Ilorin that the storm pulled down about 19 poles with high-tension cables and uprooted many trees at ARMTI.

He added that the aluminum windows of the institute's main auditorium were smashed, while the air condition facilities in the hall were destroyed. It was also said to have destroyed the satellite dish of the institution and removed a part of the roof of the administrative block and some other buildings.

He said ARMTI lacked the capacity to rehabilitate the damaged property and appealed to relevant federal government agencies and Kwara State Government to assist the institute.
