Concern over Okelele's Drainage

Date: 2012-09-27

The residents of Ode Alawo Nla, Okelele in Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, have raised alarm over the condition of drainage in the area, appealing to the authorities to come their rescue on time.

They pleaded with the government to take a proactive measure to avert disaster in the area.

A resident, who simply identified himself as Mr. AbdulWahab, told City Rove that bad drainage is one of the problems facing the community.

He stated that whenever it rains heavily, the road is usually flooded with water, making it difficult for motorists and other road users to pass.

AbdulWahab, popularly referred to as Baba Ibeji, decried the situation and urged the government to look into it to prevent avoidable disaster.

He identified other challenges confronting the community as incessant power failure and lack of drinkable water and toilet facilities.

Another problem we are facing here is incessant power failure. We have light twice in a week, and that is when PHCN staff are about to distribute monthly bill to us. We need government to intervene on time.

"Other problems we have included unavailability of drinkable water, toilet facilities and bad road. The only place where we get water is Ode Alawo Health Centre, and it is supplied once in a week".

The respondent conducted City Rove round the malfunctioned borehole in the area and prayed the Ilorin East Local Government Council to repair the water source.

Another resident, Muhammadu Nasir, called on the state government to build more public schools in the area to enable children have access to education.

The respondent pleaded with the government to dispatch sweepers to the area, saying that the area is prone to hazard as a result of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage.

City Rove observed that the area is polluted with stench following the indiscriminate refuse dumping in the drainage.
